Panama’s immigration law defines different types of permanent residency permits (visas) that provide to the applicant diverse benefits, including the possibility to obtain a Panamanian passport, permanent residency and citizenship.

INCOME‐BASED RETIREE

To qualify for this permit the applicant must have a monthly income of eight hundred and fifty dollars (US$850.00) exclusively originated from interests produced by a fixed term deposit, free of any liens or warranty of any nature for a minimum period of five (5) years. The fixed term deposit must be made in “Banco Nacional de Panamá” or “Caja de Ahorros” (Panama’s national banks).

RETIRED PENSIONER

An applicant, receiving a minimum lifetime rent or pension of US$1,000 per month, is eligible for this permit.

SELF‐ECONOMIC SOLVENCY

An applicant can qualify for this permit by complying with one of the following investment options:

• Investing in Panamanian real estate with a minimum value of US$300,000.
• Investing in a fixed term deposit in a Panama bank with a minimum amount of US$300,000 for a minimum period of three (3) years.
• Realizing a shared investment in real estate property and fixed term deposit, that adds up to a minimum amount of US$300,000.

BUSINESS INVESTOR

Investors who wish to conduct commercial activities and establish their residence in Panama can apply for a permit based on the company’s capital.

Basic Requirements:

• Ownership of a Panamanian company with a minimum authorized capital of USD$160,000.
• The issued capital must be paid up, and free of liens or warranty of any nature.
• The Panamanian company must have a minimum of five (5) employees.
