
Ramil Gachayev is a lawyer and researcher. He holds a PhD in Law from Swansea University; as part of his doctoral research, he undertook a visiting research programme at the University of Edinburgh. He graduated with distinction from the Faculty of Law of Samara State University of Economics in 2003 and completed the International Business Law programme at London International Business School with distinction in 2020. He has nearly 20 years of combined academic and professional legal experience. He has taught International Intellectual Property Law at the University of Edinburgh and has worked in the public sector as well as in commercial and non-commercial organisations, including leadership roles within legal departments. He has also enhanced his professional and management training in Strasbourg (France) and Cardiff (United Kingdom). His early academic work focused on computer crime, know-how and commercial secrecy, banking secrecy, and legal philosophy. His current research and publications focus primarily on the intersection of international intellectual property law, international investment law, and the legal regulation and governance of artificial intelligence; his work is published in peer-reviewed journals. He is the founder of the dejure.az web resource and the founder of aijurium.com, a platform dedicated to AI law and responsible AI governance. He is a member of the Organising Committee of the Netty National Internet Award. He is a co-founder and managing partner of the De Jure law firm. He is married and has two children.
